Late last year I received a call and was told that a owl was stuck in a soccer net at work. So I went down and helped a police officer cut the net away. I’ve never been that close to a owl before but from what I’ve learned they are nothing to mess with. So rubber gloves sharp scissors and a few towels and I was ready to perform the rescue. Standing behind the owl I carefully started cutting. The owl turned its head and smacked its beak together. The nose that came from it was somewhat intimidating. It reminded me of a taser . I placed a towel over the owls head and that seemed to calm it down. After cutting and pulling the net for several minutes the owl was no longer stuck but as you can see from the picture it was still tangled. So I called a company from Milford Ohio called Raptor INC. They came out and picked the owl up and the man said that they would like to return the owl to the same spot. Well after a few days I received an email from the place saying that they tried to heal the owls wounds but that a parasite had made it impossible for the owl to recover and had to be euthanized. I was extremely disappointed but I was proud to help the owl and give it a fighting chance. I would help any creature that I came across to at least give it another day to roam free.
