This is a new experience for me to shoot fox pictures as I have never seen them that close before and to tell the truth I have rarely ever seen a fox period around our place....I am trying to keep our dog from investigating a mother fox and her family who have a den underneath an old chicken coop about 100 feet from our house which I discovered two days ago.... This one happened to be looking over some old boards with only the top of the head and shoulders showing just before we went to town this afternoon...I got out of the car to shoot this picture by zooming in while keeping my distance...they are wild creatures and I didn't want to frighten them or get the mother agitated. I made sure to keep the dog in the car who rode along with us to town...Tonight I took Tippi out on a leash so that she won't bother the foxes or tangle with them.

The focal length that I used on this camera 428mm for this picture is equal to a 35mm focal length of 2000.

Thank you Patrick Westerfield for nominating this photo on 5/21/2019.. it is very appreciated.

Such a great shot of this beautiful creature, but I totally agree with you about keeping the distance!

Beautiful capture of this sweet young fox kit, Andrea! It looks pretty young and they stay with their mother from six months to over a year, even if the mother decides to move them to another den site. We never had any issues with Dixie and the foxes when they lived nearby but it's always best to avoid any situations. What a great opportunity you have to get more remarkable photos of these beautiful creatures!

You're welcome Andrea. A pair of foxes had a den close to our home a few years ago and it was just wonderful to be able to watch them raise a family of four with the help of one of their older kits from the previous year, something that is quite common in fox families. I look forward to learning more about these beautiful creatures from your observations and remarkable photos.

Great comp and sharpness; the narrative is great too. Perfect for the Backyard Critters theme.

Thank you everyone for your comments...Heather, thank you for telling me about the habits of the foxes as this is all new to me.. I thought they would be leaving in a couple of weeks and didn't realize the kits stay with their mother that long . Yesterday it was quiet by their den, although I did see the mother fox briefly but not her young ones who may have decided to sleep in because of the cold, rainy and windy weather outside.. They were doing a lot of chasing each other around the day before and they were probably worn out..Today it is still very wet from all of the rain we've had . Thank you Patrick for nominating this picture...I am just glad that it turned out of this cutie!

is the last picture that I shot of the foxes and glad I was able to shoot this one outside....I saw the mother fox briefly the next day but they apparently have all left to another location!
