Jemaa El Fnaa is Marrakech’s main square. It is perhaps the most important part of the city and has been for centuries the heart of the Medina.

In 1985, Jemaa El-fnaa and all of Medina were declared as 'World Heritage' by UNESCO.

The Place has been listed as “Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.”

To promote and safeguard traditions of the square from the temptations of urban development, Unesco's classification hopes to preserve and protect all storytellers, musicians, jugglers, acrobats, public writers, tooth pullers, water carriers, snake charmers, demonstrators monkeys, cartomancers, herbalists, henna tattooers.
