This butterfly was all over the place in the woods today...but finally caught up with it as it was pollinating a bull thistle weed. I am glad I brought along an extra battery because I spent some time shooting pictures.

Best View in Light Box! Thank you!!!

Thank you so much to the JPG Staff for the Spotlight 8/26/2019! Very appreciated!!!

Thank you for your comments...I found this butterfly difficult to photograph as the wind kept
blowing at the time and the lighting would change mid stream from sunny to overcast yesterday! I plan to try this again on a calmer day. I zoomed in because there was a lot of brush and thistles in the way in that part of the woods where it landed to walk any closer to it

Beautiful treatment of this Swallowtail! How did you achieve it?

Andrea Petersen said (26 Aug 2019):

Thank you all for your comments...Evan there is very little treatment outside of adjusting the contrast just a little... By using the zoom on my camera. it helped to diffuse the background... The butterfly was situated in a denser section of the woods which also gave another element to this image....I thought it made a statement of its own without treatment..

Sorry I have never seen a dark female Swallowtail but my nature guide sure has. I should have checked because your picture matches perfectly. My apologies!
