E'en with imperfect wings
A Painted Lady Butterfly
Counts all her blessings
Looking upward to the sky......
She thanks God her master......
For the buds He finds room
In earth's soil for each Aster
Whenever ready to bloom......
Tho' Asters may take longer
The butterfly doesn't squander
Her time on earth to spend..
But works til the very end
Giving love for life to flow
For flowers meant to grow!

I went out early this morning when the light was soft and immediately spotted this butterfly with the torn wing that allowed me to get close and I followed it around fascinated by its resilience.

Best View in light box! Thank you!

I love the dream like softness of the morning light here, it brings out the best in the asters and that remarkable painted lady! Beautiful work Andrea!

Thank you so much for your comment and congrats Heather...I love the early morning light also for its softness, I had problems with the harsh blobs of sunlight yesterday afternoon when shooting pictures of butterflies and made a vow I would go out this morning which produced more natural color. It is really my favorite of the series that I photographed of the asters with butterflies and bees in our yard.

I'm always tempted to repair the damage, not exactly ethical but then I enjoy the manipulation, your added story is a better alternative.

Thank you for the comments....I liked the realism and the moral of the story to tell of the butterfly with the torn wing that it could still function to the best of its ability regardless of the fact that one wing wasn't perfect. it reminded me of my late father after his stroke when at first he could not walk but with rehab he was able to walk again!
