One early industry in Elgin, Texas was the Brick Mill. They were out on the east side of town, had a Company store, so-called Doctor, and tenant housing. [Shotgun house, long and narrow, called that because if you fired a shotgun at the front door, you would hit everyone in the house]. 95% white but for sure the wrong side of the tracks. These people pictured all grew up with their fathers working at the Brick mill, lots went on to work there too..

In the Hellgin, Texas photo essay.
