HAROLD BLOOM

“I have only three criteria for what I go on reading and teaching: aesthetic splendour, intellectual power, wisdom.

Societal pressures and journalistic fashions may obscure these standards for a time, but mere Period Pieces never endure.

The mind always returns to its need for beauty truth and insight. Mortality hovers, and all of us learn the triumph of time. We have an interval, and then our place knows us no more.”

Photo taken in Rotterdam many years ago when my son and I were fortunate to have been invited to a major poetry congress by one of Europe's highly esteemed poet and publicist, Germain Droogenbroodt whose wonderful wife Lilianne is his artistic partner.
