The accused, judicial police and lawyers watch a Chinese Kung-Fu movie after the trial in a courtroom in rural Cambodia. The defendant (sitting on the left) is a 19 year old Pursat resident accused of battery (stabbing someone in a fight). He has been detained without council for over 6 months. International Bridges to Justice ( took the case and brought it to trial. Due to a multitude of problems with the legal system in Cambodia, the accused can sit in prison for years without a trial if no one is working to get their case to court. Most can't afford a lawyer and there are not enough organizations like IBJ to provide free services.

In this case he pleaded innocent testifying that it was not him but his friend that stabbed the victim. There were no witnesses in the case and his friend has disappeared. The trial was given an interlocutory judgement until witnesses could be found and more investigation can be done.
