I love my Holgas. There is something about the plastic camera's and the distinct pictures they capture. I have always been captivated by the dreamy quality and unique feel they produce. Lately though, mine have been silently sitting in the corner of my room. Part of the reason is that it is a hassle to have 120 film developed, not to mention expensive. The other reason is, while I do love film, I have found their digital counterpart.

Enter Hipstamatic. It is a digital version of a small production camera, and provides endless fun and creative opportunities. The standard equipment which comes with your app purchase includes three lenses (the john s lens, the jimmy lens, and the kaimal mark ii lens), three types of film (ina's 1969 film, kodot verichrome film, and blanko film), and one flash. At $1.99, that is a lot of creative power for less than the cost of a roll of 120 film.

Once you are familiar with the camera, you can add to your equipment through in app purchases. All in all you can have 8 film types, 6 lenses, and 6 flashes for under $10.

Each piece of equipment adds a unique twist to the images it captures. Change the film for different borders and grains, shoot in color or B\W. Flick to a new lens to get that super vingette look you like. And add a splash of color cast with a new flash.

Once you have your images, the app stores the image in its own film roll, and also adds the image to your main photo library. It makes it really easy to share with friends by allowing you to post your pictures to Flickr and Facebook right from the film roll. You can also directly submit you pictures to The Big Hipstamatic Show, a series of contests which they host.

Although my Holgas are resting peacefully in the corner of my room, I love that I always have a bag full of toy camera's in my pocket, ready for any situation.

If you have an iPhone, you need this app, it is the best value I have found for my photobag yet.
