The Challenge of Cancer - A Story That Has to be Told

Looking Forward

A long time ago my good friend Maura Wolfson-Foster asked me to write a story about cancer and now that I am either in repose or over it I am finally able to put some sort of sequence to it.

Cancer changes the lives of everyone close to it from the patients, to family and friends. If you are lucky as I was, I happened upon a wonderful surgeon who was above and beyond a doctor, he really cared and showed it. After 3 operations it was on to chemo and then radiation all very traumatic! However, with a positive attitude, confronting it face on and with the help of family and friends one can keep on top of it. Always keep your sense of humor and try and enjoy the good things in life. You certainly appreciate love and friendship more than ever and have the ability of finding other positive reasons why you are lucky despite the cancer. Without the love and support of my wonderful family and friends I would never have been able to get through this period of time so I just have to say a big thank you to them all!!! Don't let it get you down keep on top of it!

What a wonderfully positive essay about fighting a killer. I have no doubt that your love for your family and friends, and of course, theirs for you kept your spirits high so you could bravely face and beat this monster. I love your beautiful artistic photos that so vividly describe your battle. I am sure God surrounded you with that love (all love comes from God), and gave you strength. Thanks for sharing this most personal story. We never know when we might fall victims to the same disease, and this knowledge would be so valuable. You look beautiful with your short hair, Sonia.

you are an inspiration, my dear friend! I was so naive not knowing what you went through or going through. Or was just trying to evade this sensitive topic? I think, I'm both.
