What city do you live in? What neighborhood?

I live in Reno Nevada in an area called the North Valley's. The North Valley's are a succesion of valley's that you will find as you head north on Hwy 395 all the way to the California border; as you head north you gain approximatley 1,000 ft in elevation. The result of that being that the North Valley's are cooler than Reno proper. Downtown Reno may have 6 inches of snow while the North Valley's will have 6 ft of snow.

What are some adjectives that describe your neighborhood?

The North Valley's are a middle class blue collar area. Reno is in a region of the United States called high desert, Reno's elevation is 4,500 ft while the North Valley's are closer to 5,400 ft. The position of the North Valley's in relation to the Sierra Nevadas means that we always have a breeze blowing if not high winds. The highest gust of wind that I can remember was 100 mph.

How long have you lived there, and what brought you there?

I came to Reno 11 years ago for a job. One of my best friends from high school was managing a printing company here and he needed someone to run his Graphics Department. He and I got into the printing business out of high school together and had gone our seperate ways professionally since then. Coming here to Reno brought us back together for the first time in 10 years.

What is your favorite thing about this place? Your least favorite?

I think my favorite thing about Reno and the North Valley's is the vistas. On most days you can see for 70 miles, and on most evenings you get a wonderful cool breeze off the Sierra Nevadas while enjoying a beautiful sunset. My least favorite thing would be the cold. It is not uncommon for the temprature to be 17 degrees during the winter months with a breeze blowing at 20 mph it just makes your ears hurt.

Do you feel that you belong there?

I just love it here. We have had several chances to go back to Fresno California where we are from, but we just can't bare to leave. It is just a wonderful place to live and raise children.

What is the most common misconception about where you live?

The most common misconception about Reno is that we are like Las Vegas. We are not like Las Vegas. Reno is much more family oreintated. The casino are just a small part of the city landscape industry and large corporate businesses are here in large numbers. Reno sits right on the I-80 corridor the major route of commerce between the west coast and east coast. I-80 goes striaght to the docks of San Francisco. Nevada having a reputation as a business friendly state brings large business here in droves.

What is a special fact about your city that you have to live there to know?

Lake Tahoe is just 45 minutes from here, and is one of a few lakes that do not flow to the ocean. The water from Lake Tahoe flows down the Truckee River through downtown Reno and empties into Pyramid Lake 100 miles later on the Pyramid Lake Piaute Indian Reservation.

What aspect of your city do you secretly love?

I love the fact that you can use the casinos as a bank. You can get a check cashed here 24-7

Anything else you'd like to add?

Reno is an outdoorsmans paradise. We are 45 minutes from Lake Tahoe and 45 minutes from being out in the middle of the desert completley by yourself. You can snow ski at some of the worlds most famous ski resorts or fish for Giant Lahanton Cutthroat Trout at pristine fresh water lake in the middle of the desert. You can hunt Bighorn Sheep, hunt gemstones, pan for gold, or play balckjack all night long. Let us not forget just 10 miles east of Reno is the famous Mustang Ranch and other assorted brothels as prositution is legal in most Nevada counties.
