Burleigh Heads has always held a soft spot for me - the kind of stretch of coast you keep meaning to get right and quietly promise yourself you'll return to properly. I came back recently to do exactly that, treating the stay like a reshoot: the first visit hadn't quite landed, and I wanted another go at picking the base that actually works. What follows is the shortlist I'd hand a friend doing the same.

The Frame That Didn't Work

On my first run through Burleigh Heads I picked a base purely on the words 'beach access' and learned, the slow way, that there's a world of difference between a walkway to the sand and an actual sea view. Back when I was closing out the night audit, the 2am question was always the same - 'why doesn't my balcony look like the photo?' - and I never had a good answer for guests who'd booked the same way I just had. This time I went back to fix that one frame.

Right Against the Sand

If getting the view right is the whole point of the reshoot, these are the properties I'd put money on - close enough to the water that there's no excuse for disappointment twice.
