My Favourite Ubud Resorts, Old Frame Intact
A warm walk through Ubud's palace-side courts, garden pools and quiet villa corners - the resorts I keep returning to, old view intact.
What the Old Photographs Saw
Guests used to bring old photographs to my night desk sometimes, decades-old Ubud shots, asking if I recognised the spot. I rarely did outright, but the landmarks gave it away every time - the palace gate, the market roofline, the start of Monkey Forest Road. Those three anchors are still the honest test here: stand where they stood and see what's changed around them.Where the Palace Still Watches
Three of these resorts sit close enough to Ubud Palace and the market that the old vantage points are a short walk, not a taxi ride.-

9.6This is, for my money, one of the loveliest resorts in Ubud's city centre - the terrace over rice fields matches old snapshots of this stretch of Monkey Forest Road closely, and Ubud Palace is only 650 metres off. The airport shuttle is extra, so confirm the fee with the desk when you book.

9.3Also on Monkey Forest Road, five minutes from Ubud Market - the free wood-carving and Balinese dance lessons are a nice touch if a pool day isn't enough, and the free daily afternoon tea on your own balcony day bed feels like a small event ->

8.1Five minutes from both Monkey Forest and the Old Palace market - Donna Restaurant's two floors of Mediterranean and Latin American plates are an unexpected find this central. Book direct on Booking.com and ask which of the two dining rooms is open the night you land.
The Garden Frame That Holds Still
Step a little further out and the comparison shifts from palace stonework to rice-terrace green - the other constant in almost every old Ubud photograph.-

9.2A five-star build with two pools and a fitness room worth using after a rice-terrace walk - the outdoor fireplace and steam room are the small luxuries I always flag to guests chasing more than a standard spa menu. Check current rates on the official site, and note the airport run is about 34 kilometres.

9.2Every room opens to a garden or pool view, the frame I'd pick if it was Ubud's greenery in the old postcards that drew you here. Compare it on Google Travel - the tour desk can also arrange the same rice-terrace walks those old shots were taken from.
The Quiet Corner Off to the Side
Two properties step back from the main frame entirely, trading the crowd for a private pool or a rooftop one instead.-

9.3Adults-only, with a rooftop pool - the quiet corner of this walk, and my own pick for a couple's stay near Ubud Palace without the family-pool noise. This rooftop-pool resort sits 36 kilometres from the airport, so build in transfer time.

9.3Ten minutes' walk to Monkey Forest, but the villas here keep their own private pools, so you needn't leave the garden view at all. See villa layouts on the official site - each has a kitchen and seating area, handy for a week-long stay rather than a weekend.
